Finalize Your Unit Plan

This is your final opportunity to revise your digital unit plan. In addition to the items below, consider the feedback provided by your classmates.

UNIT PLAN BASICS
  1. Instructional Procedures - In the Unit Plan Template (see below; also found on the Intel CD), develop the section on instructional procedures. In this section, you will provide a list of what you will do throughout your unit. Now that you've created several lessons and have come up with assessments, resources, and other activities, create a day-by-day or step-by-step list which structures the order in which you will utilize all of these items. (Take a look at some sample Unit Plans for ideas.) Be sure to include all the steps to prepare students for the multimedia assignment. How will you introduce the assignment? How will students work on the assignment? How will you have them share their accomplishments? (You might pretend that you are giving instructions to a substitute teacher - what would you need to tell them to do? Provide step-by-step instructions.)
  2. Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction - Update the section on Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction (also in the Unit Plan Template). Try to identify specific, rather than general, strategies. Take a look at the assignments and expectations--what might need to be done to make sure that all students can be successful? Should you provide guided lecture notes, special grouping structures, or a word wall? Remember that many of the accommodations are likely good for all students! (Note: I don't expect you to necessarily create the required support documents for differentiating instruction, only to identify what needs to be done.) Don't forget to include your linked resources, glossary, visuals, graphic organizers, videos, and digital games and interactives - these are all available to support student learning. Below are a few web sites to assist you with this section of the Unit Plan:
  3. Other Categories - Finalize all categories of your unit plan to the degree possible.

ASSESSMENTS
  1. Review information on assessment below and at Assessing Projects (http://www97.intel.com/en/assessingprojects/). Especially review the examples of the Secondary Assessment Timelines. You drafted an assessment plan back in Slice 3--now is the time to revisit your plan and to restructure your ideas into an assessment timeline. An Assessment Timeline shows in chronological order the different types of formal and informal assessments that occur during the unit. The table below explains how each assessment is used and who uses it for what purpose. You will need to provide both parts. It may be that you include assessments that you haven't yet developed - and that's okay.
  2. Self-assess your assessment timeline. Consider these questions: Does the timeline include entry-level, progress monitoring, and summative assessments? Are there a variety of assessment formats and strategies? Are there ways to assess content knowledge, teamwork, communication and research skills, writing, higher-order thinking, and creativity?
  3. Update your unit plan to include your assessment plan, providing details about each assessment. Provide links to online assessments.
  4. Polish your assessment documents - making them ready for use in your future classroom. Do you include point distributions on each question for every assessment? Is there a place for student name and period? Have you reduced any redundancy and reformatted to save space and improve the structure?

LESSONS
  1. Student Multimedia Project Assignment - Be sure to provide a description and directions for this assignment, attached your student sample, and included your assessment tool and support resources.
  2. Teacher Lecture/Guided Notes - Be sure to provide both the teacher lecture (in a viewable format) and a student worksheet/guided notes activity.
  3. Webercise - Be sure to include the Webercise.
  4. Timeline - Be sure to provide a description and directions for this assignment, attached your student sample, and included your assessment scoring guide/rubric.

FINAL STEPS
  1. Finalize all of your unit plan and resources. Make sure everything is polished and professional. Feel free to include additional materials that aren't part of the requirements for EDSC 304. These additional materials could include those created by other teachers or publishers.
  2. Post everything on your Digital Init Plan site. Make sure that your unit plan template is completed and on your digital site (again, see template below). Make sure all documents are uploaded, linked, and visible. Include links for any online resources, such as a social bookmarking site (i.e., PortaPortal), online quizzes, surveys, polls, Wikipedia topics, digital interactives, etc.
  3. Send your instructor an email with the following subject line: FIRST LAST NAME Unit Plan Title ready for evaluation.
